Emergency

What to do before help arrives

A few situations are genuine emergencies. Here is how to tell, and exactly what to do in the first few minutes.

What counts as a plumbing or HVAC emergency

Not every issue needs an after-hours call. These do.

  • A burst or actively leaking pipe
  • A gas odor near an appliance, meter, or line
  • Sewage backing up into a sink, tub, or floor drain
  • No air conditioning during a heat warning, especially with kids, older adults, or pets in the home
  • No heat during a hard freeze

Right now

What to do the moment it happens

Burst pipe
  1. Shut off the main water valve, usually at the meter box or where the line enters the house.
  2. Turn off any electrical circuits near the water if outlets or a panel are close by.
  3. Move furniture and valuables out of the water and start directing it toward a drain.
  4. Call us at (469) 555-0114. A live person answers burst pipe calls day or night.
Gas smell
  1. Do not flip a light switch, light a match, or use anything that could spark.
  2. Get everyone, including pets, out of the house and leave the doors open behind you.
  3. Once you are outside, call the gas utility's emergency line, then call us.
  4. Do not go back inside until a technician or the gas utility clears the home.
AC out in August
  1. Check the breaker and the thermostat batteries first. Sometimes it is that simple.
  2. Close blinds and run fans to slow the heat build-up while you wait.
  3. Move anyone heat-sensitive, small children, or pets to the coolest room if it climbs past 85 degrees indoors.
  4. Call us and mention the indoor temperature. Extreme heat days move to the front of the schedule.
