Emergency
What to do before help arrives
A few situations are genuine emergencies. Here is how to tell, and exactly what to do in the first few minutes.
What counts as a plumbing or HVAC emergency
Not every issue needs an after-hours call. These do.
- A burst or actively leaking pipe
- A gas odor near an appliance, meter, or line
- Sewage backing up into a sink, tub, or floor drain
- No air conditioning during a heat warning, especially with kids, older adults, or pets in the home
- No heat during a hard freeze
Right now
What to do the moment it happens
Burst pipe
- Shut off the main water valve, usually at the meter box or where the line enters the house.
- Turn off any electrical circuits near the water if outlets or a panel are close by.
- Move furniture and valuables out of the water and start directing it toward a drain.
- Call us at (469) 555-0114. A live person answers burst pipe calls day or night.
Gas smell
- Do not flip a light switch, light a match, or use anything that could spark.
- Get everyone, including pets, out of the house and leave the doors open behind you.
- Once you are outside, call the gas utility's emergency line, then call us.
- Do not go back inside until a technician or the gas utility clears the home.
AC out in August
- Check the breaker and the thermostat batteries first. Sometimes it is that simple.
- Close blinds and run fans to slow the heat build-up while you wait.
- Move anyone heat-sensitive, small children, or pets to the coolest room if it climbs past 85 degrees indoors.
- Call us and mention the indoor temperature. Extreme heat days move to the front of the schedule.
